Plant Based Fish Tacos

Enlighten your taste buds with this vegan fish taco dish using hearts of palm. It brings together sweetness and a nice seafood flavor that is sure to have you coming back for more.

 

What's so good about this dish?

Many people enjoy seafood. Being plant based we still enjoy that seafood flavor but without all the toxins in today's seafood. An excellent fish alternative is hearts of palm. It takes on the flavors of whatever it's seasoned with.

Hearts of Palm are packed with nutrients, fiber. It's good for your heart and digestive health, gluten free and it's versatile.

    Ingredients for the Seafood Seasoning:

    • Paprika
    • Garlic Powder
    • Onion Powder
    • Black Pepper
    • Sea Salt
    • Dried Thyme
    • Dried Oregano
    • Dried Parsley.
    • Cayenne Pepper
    • Lemon Zest
    • All Purpose Flour

    Directions for mixing the seasoned batter:

    1. In a bowl add some flour in a bowl. Then add each ingredient into the flour.
    2. Using a fork, mix everything well in the bowl.
    3. Cover and set aside.

    How to Prepare the Hearts of Palm:

    1. Remove from the can, drain all the water and pat dry with a paper towel.

    2. Heat a skillet to medium high with coconut oil.

    3. Once the hearts of palm are dried off, then them 1 at a time to the batter. Be sure each one is fully coated in the batter.

    4. Once coated, add them to the heated skillet.

    5. Fry them until golden brown on each side.

    6. Turn the heat down to low, and lightly toast the soft taco shells to your liking.

    7. Place the taco shell on serving plate, add a little salsa, add 1 fried hearts of palm, add a little more salsa.

    8. Enjoy!

    *How to Prepare Salsa from scratch (if not using ready-made salsa)

    1. Diced tomatoes, chopped onions, minced garlic, chopped jalapeno, and chopped cilantro.

    2. Combine all of these salsa ingredients into a bowl, then squeeze a little lime juice over the mixture.

    3. Season with a pinch of sea salt and black pepper.

    4. Gently stir it all together until well combined.

    5. Adjust the taste to your liking.

    6. You can let the salsa sit for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to fuse together.(optional)

     

     

    Added Notes:

    • Use the amount of seasonings to your preference.
    • Use whatever oil you have on hand.
    • Use any type of salsa, whether store bought or home made.
